The open European electricity market requires a considerable Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) between all market participants. Different national interchange standards mean that electricity suppliers for more than one country need hetrogenious IT solutions. This results in operational problems for both the TSOs and the local grid operators. Different national standards for EDI in the European electricity market also constitute a technical trade barrier. This is not acceptable to the electricity market participants nor the European Commission. The mission of ETSO Task Force EDI is to define and document EDI standards based on a general functional description of the electricity market in the EU and on existing examples in the deregulated market.
